About Our Collection

Overview
The BMS Media Center is fortunate to have a tremendous amount of support from Buford City Schools. Because of that support, we are able to update and replenish our collection annually. We currently have over 7000 books and 600 eBooks to offer our students.

Procedures
Students are able to check out a two books for two week periods. At the end of two weeks, we ask students to either return the books or bring it with them to the media center to renew it. We will email parents and students monthly reminders of materials that are overdue. All materials will need to be either returned or paid for at the end of the year in order to participate in end of the year activities.

Students have a variety of times to check out materials. They may come to the media center first thing in the morning or during Flex. They may also come either with their class or with permission from their teachers. If students find they are not able to come to the media center, they are welcome to email Dr. Nabors the name of a specific book. She will check it out for the student and put the book in the homeroom/first period teacher's box for the student.

Titles that students would like to check out but are not available may be put on hold. Students may do this directly via Destiny (log in directions are on the page) or email Dr. Nabors the name of a book and she place the hold.

Care
We make every attempt to ensure our collection is in the best condition possible. This includes cleaning and checking materials for mending needs with each circulation. We also weed old and tattered materials at the end of each school year. Unfortunately, there are times when a student borrows a book and it is either damaged or lost. In these cases, we ask students to pay for the materials allowing us to replenish lost or damaged materials. Parents with concerns may contact Dr. Nabors directly with any questions, concerns, or suggestions.

Selection
We select materials for our media collection based on a variety of sources. We look at popular titles for this age as well as student, teacher, and parent suggestions. In as much as possible, we also use professional reviews with recommended age ranges to help guide our selection. We recognize that we have a variety of interests and beliefs represented and that not all materials at the middle school age will be appropriate for all students. For this reason, we encourage students and families to discuss these matters with each other to help students guide their personal selections.

Concerns
We are happy to discuss any concerns families have. Please contact Dr. Nabors directly with any questions, concerns, or suggestions.
