Advisor: Kathy Childers
What is the Student Leadership Council?
The Student Leadership Council is comprised of 7th- and 8th-grade students who assume the role of leading and helping other students and adults in our school and community.

SLC members are trained in the following areas during FLEX time:
  • Character and Leadership
  • Communication
  • Community Service

SLC Duties:
  • Be a role model for other students both inside and outside the classroom
  • Participate in leadership training activities provided during FLEX such as assigned reading, community service projects, group discussion, etc.
  • Participate in leadership activities led by BHS
  • Lead new student tours and provide friendship and support to new students
  • Assist the counseling staff with special events and projects such as Career Day, rising 6th-grade orientation, etc.

Qualities of a Student Leader:
  • Trustworthy
  • Enjoys helping other students
  • Responsible
  • Positive attitude
  • Respectful
  • Gets along well with others
  • Authentic
  • Is respected by peers
  • Does not give in to negative peer pressure
  • Is confident when presenting or talking to other students
  • Is comfortable speaking to adults
Selection Process:
Students not currently on SLC will complete an online application found on the BMS website. Current SLC members will reapply using a different application, which will be e-mailed to them directly.

Application Review:
A team of teachers, counselors, and administrators will review student applications as well as other information such as grades, attendance, and discipline history. The number of students able to participate in SLC is limited, so unfortunately, not all applicants will be able to participate. If a large number of students are accepted, students may be assigned to either Fall or Spring semester.
